MMU condemns arrests of religious scholars under PSA, Demands release

On Saturday, the Mutahhida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), an amalgam of various religious organizations of Kashmir, condemned the fresh arrests of religious scholars across Kashmir under PSA. "Not only are these actions by the authorities unjustified but are causing severe anger among the people as well," the MMU said. MMU also demanded release of all the arrested clerics and preachers. Bandipora police on Saturday said that they have solved the case of the killing of migrant labourer by arresting three militants in Sadunara area of Hajin in North Kashmir's Bandipora district. Police in North Kashmir’s Handwara recovered Brown Sugar from two drug peddlers, official sources said. They said a police party intercepted two drug peddlers at Sonmullah Crossing Check Point and during frisking 10 grams of Brown Sugar were recovered from them. Both were arrested and an FIR vide number 102/2022 under section 8/21 NDPS Act was registered against them at Police Station Vilgam. Suhail Dar/ Danishwar Hameed A 40-year-old pedestrian was killed after he was hit by an unknown vehicle in Qaimoh area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday. An official told The Kashmiriyat that a vehicle hit one pedestrian identified as Ajaz Ahmad Malla (50) of Turak Tachloo on Srinagar-Jammu national highway near his native village. He said that he died on the spot and the body was later brought to Qaimoh hospital. Family member of Ajaz said that he is survived by five daughters, two sons and was the sole bread owner of the family. We appeal the Kulgam police to arrest the culprit as soon as possible. Sarjan Barkati, as per his family, has been arrested by the Police, from his house in the Reban area of Shopian district of South Kashmir late on Saturday morning.
