Thousands of fish found dead in Dal Lake

Shabir Ali Thousands of fish have been found dead in the Dal Lake in Srinagar causing panic among the local residents. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that thousands of fish are floating on the surface of the world-famous Dal Lake around the Nehru Park area. The fish have been floating for the past two days which has created a foul odor in the entire area, Arshid Hussain, a local said. “The dead fish are floating on the surface of the water inside at several places including Nehru Park, Ghat 18, Centaur Hotel, Foreshore Road”, he said. Body of 25-year-old found in Anantnag town’s Wazirbagh

Suhail Dar The body of a 25-year-old was recovered in south Kashmir's Anantnag town on Friday morning. An official told The Kashmiriyat that locals spotted a dead body lying in the Wazirbagh area after which they informed the local police. A police team reached to the spot and took the body into its possession, he said. The Police identified the deceased as Irshad Ahmad Allaie son of Ghulam Nabi Allaie, who is resident of Shaksaz Mohalla in Kadipora area of  Anantnag town. The Police have registered a case in this regard for further investigations.

In a significant move, the Jammu & Kashmir Government has approved the installation of towers of harmonious call-blocking systems in all 14 jails of the Union Territory to prevent unauthorized communications from them. After two and half months, The Jammu Kashmir Police on Thursday submitted a challan in brutal rape and murder case of a lady in the Soibugh area in central Kashmir's Budgam district. A Police spokesperson said that the deceased lady was reported missing on 8th March 2023 and a missing report was lodged in the police post-Soibug. It was later discovered during the search that she had been murdered and her body dismembered. "During the investigation, police arrested Shabir Ahmad Wani of Mohanpora Budgam for his involvement in the crime and a case *FIR No 53/23 U/S 302 IPC was lodged in Police Station Budgam. Hailstorm damages crops in north Kashmir areas

An intense hailstorm has wrecked havoc in some areas of north Kashmir's Baramulla and Kupwara districts. Affected locals told The Kashmiriyat that an intense hail storm on Thursaday caused immense damage to fields in the Tawheed Gunj, Wagoora, and Tilgam areas of the Baramulla district. They said that the hailstorm continued for nearly ten minutes and caused damage to paddy fields, maize crops, apple trees, and almond orchards in the twin districts. "We are mostly dependent on these crops for our livelihood and constant hailstorms have damaged our crops," they said. They appealed to the administration to compensate for their losses.

Constant inflation has pushed Germany into recession in the first three months of the year, BBC reported. Europe's largest economy has also been hit after Russian gas supplies dried up after the invasion of Ukraine. The economy contracted by 0.3% between January and March, the statistics which was followed by a 0.5% contraction in the last three months of last year. A country is deemed to be in recession when its economy shrinks for two consecutive three-month periods, or quarters. "Under the weight of immense inflation, the German consumer has fallen to his knees, dragging the entire economy down with him," said Andreas Scheuerle, an analyst at DekaBank. Germany's inflation rate stood at 7.2% in April, above the euro area's average but below the UK's 8.7%.
