Jammu Kashmir Police Saturday arrested a person at Botakadal area of Srinagar for murdering his mother-in-law. A police official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that police post Lal Bazar received an information that a woman identified as Saleema wife of Late Muhammad Qasim, resident of Gulshan Bagh, Botakadal was assaulted by her son-in-law, resulting in her on the spot death. “The accused has been identified as Shabir Ahmed Bhat. Bhat had married Saleema’s daughter and was living at his in-laws house for some time,” the official said. A woman from Pulwama died after giving birth to a baby girl even as her family members alleged that she died due to medical negligence at district hospital Pulwama. The woman has been identified as Anisa Jan wife of Feroz Ahmad Mir of Rakh area of south Kashmir's Pulwama. A Rohingya couple jailed at the Hiranagar detention center in Jammu was brought handcuffed for the last rites of their child who died in a refugee detention centre near Jammu. In a recent virtual session, the High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh addressed the issue of staffing disparities in the healthcare sector. The court took note of the Status Report filed by the Deputy Secretary to Government, Health and Medical Education Department, dated May 29, 2023, which revealed significant discrepancies in the staffing levels between Jammu Division and Kashmir Division. According to the report, Jammu Division has a total sanctioned strength of 1390 Medical Officer posts, out of which only 726 are filled, leaving 664 posts vacant. In view of the rising water levels in Chenab, the administration has evacuated at least 97 families to safer locations in the Garkhal village in the Akhnoor sub-division of Jammu district. Flashfloods, triggered by torrential rains, have caused widespread damage to standing crops and orchards in various villages of Lolab belt. Reports reaching GNS said that villages including Gundmachar, Khurhama and Shalagund witnessed damage to agricultural crops and orchards due to flashfloods. Several roads have also suffered damage. The inhabitants have appealed the authorities to assess the loss caused and accordingly compensate the victims.
