Authorities are likely to remove world famous literature of Agha Shahid Ali from the university curriculum at University of Kashmir. (KU) According to varied media reports received by The Kashmiriyat, the authorities have removed the literature of Agha Shahid Ali and novelist Basharat Peer from the M.A (English) curriculum at Cluster University in Srinagar. "While the literature of the duo has been removed at the Cluster University, authorities are considering the removal of Agha's poetry and Basharat Peer's novel at KU," reports said. In view of the incessant rains, authorities have ordered for closure of schools in Ramban district for two days. "In view of prevailing inclement weather conditions and chances of heavy rainfall, it is hereby ordered that all Government/ Private educational institutions functioning in District Ramban shall remain closed on 20th & 21st of July, 2023 from Class-1st to Class-10th," reads an order issued by CEO Ramban, a copy of which lies with news agency Kashmir Scroll. Pulwama forest firing: Injured Forest employee succumbs

One of the two forest department employees who were injured after being fired upon by unknown gunmen in the Pulwama has succumbed to his injuries. On Tuesday evening, two employees identified as Jahangir Ahmad Chechi, and Imran Yousuf noticed suspicious activity at Sonabanjar forest area near Bagandar Bridge while patrolling during the night, they said. As they went near to inspect, the unknown persons fired at the employees, injuring them, official sources said. The injured were taken to a local hospital from where Imran was shifted to S M H S Hospital in Pulwama in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

An Army officer was killed and three soldiers were injured in a fire incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at Siachin glacier. The deceased has been identified as Captain Anshuman Singh, Regimental Medical Officer. An unknown person on Wednesday stabbed a youth with a sharp-edged weapon near Eidgah Park in Central Kashmir Srinagar district on Wednesday. Lodged at a “holding centre” here for the past over two years, over 200 Rohingyas from Myanmar on Tuesday held a protest and clashed with guards inside Hiranagar sub-jail demanding their release, official sources said. However, a senior police officer dismissed the protest as “normal”, saying they are holding protests for the past one month for their release from the centre. A total of 271 Rohingyas, including 74 women and 70 children, are lodged at the sub-jail that was notified as a “holding centre” on March 5, 2021, for lodging illegal immigrants.
