Police destroys 6,727 KGs of drugs in Jammu

Police on Monday destroyed 6,727 kilograms of drugs seized during various operations in Jammu, officials said. It was done under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaign in Jammu led by Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh. ”As a part of a nationwide campaign, 6,727 kg of drugs were destroyed in Jammu”, a senior official said. Officers of the Anti-narcotics Task Force, Narcotics Control Bureau and police officers were present on the spot.

Kashmir’s centuries-old “namda” (wollen felt rug) craft is back from the brink of extinction. Powering the revival of the once-dying art are more than 2,200 artisans from the Valley, mainly girls, who this week dispatched the first batch of an export consignment worth $1.5 lakh received from the UK, Japan, Holland and Germany Tribune reported. This is the first export for J&K-made namdas in over 25 years. The turnaround happened after the artisans underwent training as part of the Centre’s special pilot project to save the art that dates back to the 11th century. Traffic cop among three persons killed as multiple vehicles crash in Srinagar locality

A traffic cop was among three persons killed in a fatal mishap involving crash of multiple vehicles in Maloora area of Snalteng in central Kashmir’s Srinagar locality, official sources said. They told GNS that a three-wheeler (Auto), a tipper and a Maruti Car crashed near Petrol Pump Maloora, resulting in death of three persons and injuries to several others. Among the killed persons included a traffic cop identified as Zahoor Ashraf resident of Pattan Baramulla, they said. A minor girl has been allegedly raped in the north Kashmir's Baramulla district. Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that on Monday a teacher was arrested over the accusation of raping a class 9th girl in Zaloora area of Baramulla. He said that the family members of the minor girl lodged an FIR against the accused after which Jammu Kashmir Police have taken the accused into custody. Army on Monday said it eliminated two infiltrators while foiling an infiltration attempt on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector area. A defence spokesperson in Jammu, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the army launched “Operation Bahadur” in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday after an attempt was made by infiltrators on the LoC in the Poonch sector area. A man on Monday allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to death in DH Pora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said.
