51 persons detained in Baramulla for illegal extraction in 2024 so far

During the first two months of 2024, the Jammu Kashmir Police intensified their efforts to curb illegal mining activities in Baramulla.

Their diligent actions led to the registration of 30 cases and the apprehension of 51 individuals involved in the unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals.

Additionally, authorities confiscated 51 vehicles, comprising 19 tippers, 31 tractors, and an excavator, which were utilized in the illicit transportation of minerals across various parts of the district.

Working hand in hand with the Mineral Department, the Baramulla Police successfully imposed fines amounting to lakhs of rupees on those found guilty of engaging in illegal mining operations.

A police spokesperson underscored the unwavering commitment to cracking down on offenders who exploit the cover of night to carry out their nefarious activities, which not only jeopardize public health and ecological integrity but also undermine government revenue.

The collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and relevant departments highlight a concerted approach towards combating the scourge of illegal mining, safeguarding the well-being of the community, preserving the environment, and ensuring the lawful utilization of natural resources in the region.
