A fish farmer in south Kashmir’s Shopian district suffered heavy financial losses after thousands of fish reportedly died due to suspected poisoning of his fish farm.
Locals told The Kashmiriyat that the incident occurred in Heff village of Zainapora, where unidentified persons allegedly poured a toxic substance into the fish pond of Firdous Ahmad Lone.
“We woke up to a devastating sight. Thousands of fish were floating lifeless. Someone deliberately targeted our livelihood,” Firdous said.
He added, “This is not just a financial loss; it is an attack on the hard work we have put in for years.”
According to officials, approximately 7,000 fish were killed in the incident, causing damages estimated in lakhs of rupees.
The family has urged authorities to launch a thorough investigation and ensure strict action against those involved.
“We want justice. The culprits must be identified and held accountable,” a family member demanded.
Preliminary findings suggest the incident may have been driven by personal enmity, though officials say they are exploring all angles.
“Initial investigations indicate foul play, but we are not ruling out any possibilities at this stage,” an official said.
