87 Percent Boycott- Stay Away From Polls in Islamabad (Anantnag) District

Amid a heavy security blanket, the voting for the Islamabad (Anantnag) District has closed at 4PM with expected low turnout, which remained at 13.1 percent including the migrant voters.

The Kashmiriyat reporters throughout the day provided you live updates and coverage of the major happening including hourly updates of the polling percentage.

A thick security blanket was laid around the entire district as 30,000 additional troopers have been deployed for the volatile South Kashmir- Pulwama, Islamabad (Anantnag), Shopian and Kulgam.

Clashes also erupted at several places including Dehruna in Dialgam where four youth were injured, in Breenti, Dantar and other others.

The district has a total of six assembly segments which wen to polls today, Dooru, Islamabad (Anantnag), Kokernag, Shangus, Pahalgam and Bijbehara.

The Bijbehara segment witnessed the lowest turnout of 2.00, as only 1893 votes were Polled out of 93289 total votes, clashes also erupted at a few places in the area.

Tight security arrangements had been made here, in the Bijbehara as youth attacked polling parties in various areas of the Bijbehara segment.

In Islamabad (anantnag) segment, the roads wore a deserted look and people chose to stay inside their houses.

Out of a total of 86565, a total of 3030 voters cast their votes taking the voting percentage to 3.5 percent.

The highest polling percentage was witnessed in Pahalgam at 20.5 Percent here, 17757 votes were polled out of 86631.

In Dooru- 18.4 Percent- 14470 Polled out of 78684, At Kokernag- 19.6 % as 18411 out of 93897 cast their votes, 15.1 Percent in Shangus  as13332 out of 88431 cast their votes.

in Souf Shali area of Kokernag hich is the native of Slain Lashkar Commander- Bashir Ahmed Wani, 5 votes were polled out of 4900 and in Brinty, 2 votes were polled out of 5000.

Mobile internet services had been snapped in the entire South Kashmir as a precautionary measure, Most of the areas in the district witnessed a boycott to low voter turnout in the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls.

A Police official told The Kashmiriyat that polling by and large remained peaceful.
