‘Restore 370’ – says Mehbooba Mufti After 14 Months of Detention

Mehbooba Mufti, former CM of Jammu Kashmir and PDP President, has been released after 14 months of detention. In an order released by Government of Jammu Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti’s detention was revocated.

Mehbooba Mufti was among hundreds of other Kashmiris who were detained under the Public Safety act in the aftermath of the removal of the Articles 370 and 35(a) which granted partial autonomy to Jammu Kashmir.

She resorted to Twitter and released an audio message for the people of Jammu Kashmir.

In the audio, she says, “I have been released after a year and more, but during the time I served as a detainee, the inconsiderate decision that was taken by Government of India that marks the black day – 5th of August, 2019 haunted my soul and battered my heart. I am sure that majority of Kashmiris felt the same amount of shame, anger and terror that was imposed by the state and shall never forget the humiliation that came to us when the operating government in Delhi took an unconstitutional jab at us, that should be restored.”

In August, last year, she threatened an agitation after article 370 and 35(A) were abrogated and was booked under the draconian (PSA) Public Safety Act, the former Chief Minister was for the first time since its inception in 1978, booked under this law which allows the authorities to detain any person without a Judicial trail for a period extending from three months to two years.

She also added, “The government should also try and resolve the conflict that is knitted around Jammu Kashmir that over the years, resulted in deaths and injuries of many Kashmiris. We must continue to strive and thrive for our motive. I know that the path to our goal remains unsolved and difficult, but I am also sure that our will and strength shall bring us justice.”

“Now that I am released after 14 long months, I also want the innocent prisoners from Kashmir, that were taken to different states and detained post abrogation to be released,” she said, as she concluded the audio message that she released via Twitter.
