A female driver is making news all over the Jammu Kashmir for being the first female to engage in Bus driving as a profession in the region.
Pooja Devi, a middle aged woman who is a mother to three children rode the bus for the first time on the road route from Jammu to Kathua ferrying dozens of passengers, on which her son accompanied her.
The pictures of the lady ferrying the bus passengers are being shared widely on Social media platforms where people are hailing her for breaking the gender barriers
Pooja Devi spoke to ETV Bharat and said that she always wanted to be a bus driver and she is happy to see the overwhelming support she has received from fellow male drivers at Kathua bus stand and elsewhere.
Coming from a poor background, Pooja in the interview shared how she struggled to become a bus drive despite her family opposing her dream. She said one of her uncles suported her and got her a driving licence.
Many Politicians including Union Minister Jitendra Singh appreciated Pooja Devi and shared her picture on Twitter and wrote, “Proud to have from district Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, the first woman bus driver Pooja Devi”.
