Accused of ‘Conversion’, Manipuri Christian Priest Forced to Chant ‘Jai Shri Ram Slogans’ in Kathua

On Christmas day, unknown right-wing men heckled a Christian priest from Manipur in the Kathua district of Jammu Kashmir on Christmas.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, the right-wing supporters can be heard forcing him to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans.

In the video, the men were heard asking the priest to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ while accusing him of “converting” people to Christianity in the area. The right-wing men repeatedly asked him, “Where are you from? Who brought you here?”

“The incident happened around 3 pm on Christmas. I had gone to a believer’s house nearby in Kathua to pray. I returned home and went out to the market to buy some gifts for my three children. That was when two men stopped me and began accusing me of converting the family I had visited that day and was forcing me to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’,” the priest, Chunglenlal Singsit, in the video told The wire.

The Police denied the allegations of the priest saying, “We have no information about any such case in Kathua.”
