The Director of Employment in Jammu Kashmir has asserted that the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has estimated the actual unemployment rate in the region to be just 5%.

He claimed that independent surveys conducted by private organizations regarding the unemployment were inaccurate and that the unemployment rate tends to fluctuate.

He mentioned that to facilitate unemployed young individuals in taking advantage of self-employment programs, both the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Secretary have emphasized the importance of decentralization at the local level.

He expressed optimism and stated that concerted efforts are underway to bring the unemployment rate down to zero within the next two to three years.

The director also reported that the department organized 84 job fairs in the previous year, attracting numerous job seekers and hundreds of private sector employers.

However, out of the thousands of teenagers from Jammu Kashmir who registered, only two to three thousand displayed a genuine interest in finding employment.
