After canceling admission, Jamia now bans activist Safoora Zargar from entering campus

After Jamia Milia Islamia canecelled Muslim activist Safoora Zargar’s admission in MPhil course, a new notice from the Jamia authorities says that she has been barred from entering the Jamia Milia Islamia campus.

The recent order by Jamia college states protests and marches organised by her as the reason for her expulsion from campus.

“It has been observed that Ms. Safoora Zargar (ex student) has been involved in organizing agitations, protests and marches on the campus against the irrelevant and objectionable issues to disturb the peaceful academic environment with few students who are mostly outsiders. She is instigating innocent students of the University and trying to use the University platform for her malafide political agenda alongwith some other students. Further, she is hampering the normal functioning of the institution. In view of above, the Competent Authority, for maintaining peaceful academic environment across the Campus, has approved Campus Ban on ex student Ms. Safoora Zargar with immediate effect,” stated the college order.

Last month, Safoora had shared her ordeal on Twitter, saying that she was made to run pillar to post by college authorities but still denied extension on her MPhil thesis. She was expelled from the department, later.

Pertinently, Safoora was among the student activists arrested under Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for protesting against the discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act in 2020. She was granted bail on the grounds of her pregnancy and the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time, Safoora faced a lot of online harrassment from the pre-establishment groups.
