After being stuck at home for two years due to the lockdown post abrogation of 370 in August 2019 and Covid-19 Students are in distress fearing one more year of academic loss.
Kashmir witnessed a surge in Covid-19 cases in the past couple of weeks forcing authorities to impose a fine and conduct rapid antigen tests on all persons found without a mask in public places. Students say back-to-back lockdowns are taking a toll on their studies as well as mental health.
Sualiha a student at women’s college Srinagar said after remaining at home for so long she is happy joining college back but with the cases surging she fears another lockdown.
She said colleges are already having an odd-even schedule which is allowing a crowd-free environment on the campus but the main problem lies in locals buses, Streets, and other places where people are not following SOPs due to which cases are on a rise.
Sauliha said she has grown up in the environment of shutdowns and lockdowns and there is no surety of a normal academic year in Kashmir, which is something unusual from other parts of the World.
One more student from the same college said colleges should function smoothly and they don’t want to lose one more year of college sitting at home.

The Kashmiriyat reported earlier that 36 students and a parent of one of the students tested positive for Corona Virus in the Noori Public School in Khul area of Damhal Hamjipora of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district after which the school was ordered to be shut for one week.
In Kathoo area, a Government High school was shut after at least 14 students from the school tested positive for the virus in this school located in the Sirigufwara area of Anantnag district. The authorities have closed down the school for 5 days.
In Mattan, the head of a school tested positive after which the school was shut for three days.
Meanwhile, in Srinagar’s Kothi Bagh High school two including a member of the teaching staff and the non-teaching staff have been tested positive for covid 19 infections.
Officials in Budgam said that a teacher posted at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Budgam was tested positive for Covid-19 after which the school was shut for five days. In the Durbal area of Budgam and in the Higher Secondary of Narbal three have been tested covid positive.
Other than asking students to mask up, maintain physical distancing and use hand sanitizers time and constantly, the administration said that the Covid-19 SOP’s shall be followed in letter and spirit in addition to suggestions of District Disaster Management Authorities.
Besides, a local committee needs to be framed per school comprising for monitoring and support. The students can sit almost two meters apart from each other and in case of non-availability of such space, staggered schedule or shift timings and student rotation can be an option.
