A student of Aligarh Muslim University was suspended for raising ‘Allah o Akbar’ slogan during the republic day function at the university.
A University student told The Kashmiriyat over the phone that a student Wahid u Zaman from West Bengal was suspended after he raised Allah o Akbar (God is Great) slogan during a ceremony on 26 January at SS Hall (south).
He said that the video was shared on social media after which sections of Indian news channels shared the video demonizing the university and its students calling them ‘habitual’ offenders.
In the video, students, clad in the uniform of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), are purportedly heard chanting the slogan after the hoisting of the Tri-colour on campus, outside Strachey Hall.
The University taking cognizance of the incident said that the student has been suspended.
“It has been brought to the notice of the University authorities that after the conclusion of the official Republic Day programme on 26.01.2023, certain unbecoming slogans were allegedly raised. At least one video of the said purported incident is also being shared on social media,” a notice by the Aligarh Muslim University’s Registrar read.
The University does not approve of such actions and views the matter sternly, it added.
AMU has also formed a three-member committee “in order to enquire into the entire incident and to fix responsibility where required.”
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police, City, Kuldeep Singh Gunawat said a case under IPC sections 153B (remarks likely to cause disharmony, or feeling of enmity or hatred or ill-will) and 505 (mischief) was lodged against an unidentified NCC cadet based on a complaint filed by Yogesh Varshney.
