Locals of Anantnag on Monday took it to themselves to repair the only sports stadium at south Kashmir’s Anantnag town.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, a local said that they have approached the concerned administrative officials several times, however, “no officials showed any concern towards the Sports stadium.”

“The administration had sanctioned 7 crore amount of rupees for the same in 2019 which is yet to be put into work. This is the only Sports stadium in the town and we keep organizing sports events here to keep youth away from the drug menace in Kashmir. The admin, however, has paid no attention to the Stadium since 2019,” he said.

Another local said they are organizing a tournament (Titans Gold Cup) in which 40 teams are participating. ” A South African player too got injured because of the pathetic condition of the Sports stadium in Anantnag. At the same time, the player needs around 1 lakh rupees for his treatment,” he told The Kashmiriyat.

“Many times people of Anantnag had made requests to the sports council to take up measures to level up the ground as in two matches two players were injured because of the ground’s terrible condition, but to no avail.”

As the administration failed to meet the demands of the stadium, locals of Anantnag have made their own contribution to level up the ground of the stadium, he said.

The Locals appealed to the Sports Council, DC Anantnag to intervene in the matter.
