The Jammu Kashmir Police on Saturday urged locals including shopkeepers to inform them of any inconvenience faced by them in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district amid the ongoing Amarnath yatra, underlining that security arrangements were necessary in the interest of everyone.

“Residents and shopkeepers are requested to contact senior police officers or police in case there is any inconvenience faced by them in Anantnag district amid ongoing Amarnath Ji yatra,” a police officer told a local news agency GNS. “The people and shopkeepers are requested not to pay any heed to rumors on social media,” the officer said.

Police, the officer said, want to put the record straight that no shops have been ordered to be closed anywhere in the Anantnag district including KP Road. Also, no by-lanes or lanes are closed for hours as some people claim on social media.”

“Some miscreants are using photographs of about 10-15 minutes when Yatra is crossing KP road. Security arrangement is necessary and in the interest of everyone including the local residents and shopkeepers,” the officer said, adding, “It has also come to notice that one Twitter handle with the name ‘Shafkat81’ has spread distorted information. Now the Twitter handle has been deleted by the user. An investigation has been taken in this regard, necessary action will be initiated against the miscreant.”

Pertinently, a video had gone viral on social media showing heightened troop presence and harassment on the road that connects the Khanabal and Pahalgam areas of the district.
