Residents of Anderwan and Alchiward areas in the Anantnag district are aghast against the shortage of drinking water supply for the last several years.

Earlier on Friday, the aggrieved residents including women and children sloganeering against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department staged a protest.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat the residents alleged that water is being supplied to the area through water tankers. “We have to wait for water tankers and at times we are forced to consume tube well water. Such is our plight in the 21st century”, said an elderly protester.

Residents said that a Pipeline in half area of Tang Waed was laid by the PHE department but the department has failed to extend the pipeline to the Anderwan and Alchiward areas, creating huge problems for the locals.

Residents have appealed to the district as well LG-led Administration for their intervention in this regard and to solve the problem as soon as possible.

Meanwhile in this regarding The Kashmiriyat contacted AEE PHE, Mohammad Ayoub who said that the new lift scheme under JJM has been framed for Anderwan for which tendering is under progress and work will be started from April 2022.
