The Jammu Kashmir Assembly passed a resolution on Wednesday calling for the restoration of the special status that the region held before August 2019. In response, BJP members staged a protest in the well of the House, labeling the resolution as part of an “anti-national agenda.”

BJP leaders criticized the Speaker of the Assembly, accusing him of showing favoritism toward the National Conference (NC), despite claims of political neutrality.

BJP leader Sham Lal Sharma took to the table in the well of the House, condemning what he described as a long-standing ploy by NC to manipulate the sentiments of J&K’s people.

Sharma stated, “This political stunt won’t work. From Sheikh Abdullah to Omar Abdullah, emotional blackmail has been the norm in J&K.”

Amidst the protests, BJP members chanted slogans like, “Where Mukherji was martyred, that Kashmir is ours; no anti-national agenda will succeed,” a reference to the ideological battle over Kashmir’s status.

They also voiced support for the Indian government’s actions on August 5, 2019, when Article 370, granting special status to J&K, was revoked.
