An Indian Army personnel was killed and four others, including a captain, were injured on Saturday when the Army thwarted an attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) in the Kamakari sector of Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, according to military sources.

In the exchange of fire, a Pakistani intruder was also killed. The BAT, typically composed of Pakistani special forces and militants, attempted the assault early in the morning.

Sources confirmed that the vigilant Indian Army troops successfully repelled the attack. “One Pakistani intruder was killed,” one source reported.

During the prolonged gunfight, which lasted several hours, two intruders managed to retreat back into Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK). The intruders had initially launched a grenade and fired upon a forward post near the Kumkadi post in the Trehgam sector.

In the ensuing firefight, five soldiers sustained injuries, with one later succumbing to his wounds. The injured personnel, including the captain, were evacuated to a base hospital, where one remains in critical condition.
