As Junaid Mattuu Falls, BJP Rises to Power in Srinagar Municipal Council

Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Junaid Azim mattu has been removed from his post on Tuesday after a majority of corporators passed a no-confidence motion against him.

Pertinently, an application seeking removal of the  mayor was signed by 41 corporators headed by Wahid Ahmad Dar, counsellor of Ward 72 Zukura.

The former Deputy Mayor, Sheikh Imran said, “Earlier, when no confidence motion was passed against me I was a detainee which was a complete injustice for me. Now, No confidence motion was passed by Corporators headed by Wahid Ahmad Dar against the Mayor and we succeeded it completely as an independent Corporators and have shown all the scams of SMC.”

Talking about the new face of Mayor Sheikh said, “The decision will be taken by the group of Corporators keeping in view all the previous scams which had happened since past one and half year and now our focus will be on development of city.”

Pertinently the move to remove Junaid was supported by Bhartiya Janta Party, the party had also sought security for Sheikh Imran, Sources informed The Kashmiriyat that Junaid was pressing hard to keep BJP at bay, however today’s confidence vote, against him has given BJP direct access to the Srinagar’s Municipal council.

Earlier the BJPs state spokesperson, Altaf Thakur said majority of corporators are not happy with Matoo and they want former deputy mayor Sheikh Imran as the SMC mayor, In December last year, The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested the Sheikh Imran , in connection with JK Bank loan fraud case.
