Several students of a government run school were hospitalized due to suspected fever in the Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Thursday, 27 students from Eklavya model residential School (EMRS) in Kulgam’s Aharbal were hospitalized due acute respiratory infection.

Initially, it was said that the students had suffered food poisoning, however, the Block Medical officer of the area denied food poisoning as the cause of the hospitalization and said, “A team of health workers has been sent to the team to investigate the actual cause of the infection, however, they have not suffered any food poisoning.”

EMRS started in the year 1997-98 to impart quality education to Scheduled Tribes children in remote areas in order to enable them to avail of opportunities in high and professional educational courses and get employment in various sectors, as per Government of India.

Each school has a capacity of 480 students, catering to students from Class VI to XII
