Twenty-six persons were killed in August this year in different militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir.
The data available with the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that 16 militants (3 non-locals & 5 infiltrators), 5 soldiers, 2 policemen and 3 civilians (2 non-locals) were killed in August this year in Jammu and Kashmir.
There were 4 gunfights in Valley that raged in Redwani Kulgam, Waterhal Budgam, Nagabal Shopian and Bomai Sopore.
Militants shot dead a non-local labourer Muhammad Amrez from Bihar in Sodunar Ajas area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora while another non-local worker Mumtaz Ahmed of Bihar was killed after militants hurled a grenade towards non-local labourers in Gadoora Pulwama. Two non-local workers sustained injuries in the attack. Militants also fired upon a naka party in Bijbehar injuring SPO Ghulam Qadir posted at Police Station Bijbehara.
A civilian Manzoor Ahmed Lone of Redwani was killed in Redwani Kulgam encounter where militants managed to escape from the gunfight site.
Three militants Lateef Ahmed Rather of Baadipora Chadura, Saqib Mushtaq Khan, Muzafar Chopian both residents of Khonmou were killed in Waterhal Budgam encounter in August this year.
Two unidentified militants and five soldiers “Subedar Rajendra Prasad, Rifleman Manoj Kumar, Rifleman Lakshmanan D, Havaldar Satya Pal, a resident of Rajasthan and Rifleman Nishant Malik were killed in Palghar Rajouri attack.
A policeman Tahir Khan of Mendhar, Poonch succumbed after militants hurled a grenade in Qoimoh Kulgam.
Policeman Sarfaraz Ahmad of Batote Ramban succumbed in Nowhatta Srinagar after militants fired upon a police party.
Police claimed that a Pakistani jailed militant Muhammad Ali Hussain was killed after he attacked a police constable during a weapon recovery operation in Arina sector of Jammu while Army claimed that it killed two infiltrators in Rajouri along LoC.
Three infiltrators were also killed in Madiyan Nanak post in Kamalkote sector of Uri.
In the last two days of August 5 militants were killed in Shopian and Sopore encounters. The slain militants were all locals identified as Danish Khurshid Bhat, Tanvir Ahmed Wani and Tawseef Bhat of Shopian district and Muhammad Rafi of Sopore & Kaiser Ashraf of Pulwama. (KNT)
