The body of 27-year-old Adil Bashir, a resident of Rainawari, Srinagar, who had gone missing in the Kulgam district of aouth Kashmir last month, was found today by a joint team of the police and SDRF near Aharbal.

Adil Bashir, the son of Bashir Ahmad Sofi, had been missing since September 30, 2024. His family had reported his disappearance after he left his home in Rainawari for work and did not return.

According to officials who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, Adil was suspected to have fallen into the Jhelum River near Gurwathan in Kulgam.

Last week, the body of a female who had also gone missing with Adil was recovered from the Jhelum.

The authorities confirmed through a technical investigation that both Adil and the woman were together in a vehicle before the incident.

Officials told The Kashmiriyat that a joint search operation was launched by teams of the SDRF from Kulgam and Shopian, along with police and local volunteers, to trace the missing persons.

After weeks of searching, Adil’s body was finally located near Aharbal, bringing a tragic end to the case.

An official from the SDRF confirmed the recovery of Adil’s body, stating that the search operation had been challenging due to the fluctuating water levels.

“The body surfaced due to the low water levels, which helped us in retrieving him,” the official said.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
