Authorities on Tuesday imposed restrictions in parts of central Kashmir's Budgam district to prevent the assembly of people on the eve of Ashura. The officials said that the restrictions were imposed on the assembly of people as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order on the occasion of Ashura, which marks the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of last Prophet of Islam. "There are no restrictions on the movement of the people anywhere else in Kashmir, including in Srinagar city," officials said.

Two pilgrims were killed in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir due to shooting stones, officials said on Monday. “A pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh and another from Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri lost their lives after being hit by a shooting stone near the cave of Shiv Khori Shrine in Reasi district,” said Babila Rakwal, Deputy Commissioner. Reports reaching to the news agency Kashmir News Trust said that shooting stones hit both the pilgrims. One died on the spot while another died on the way while getting shifted to the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Nirmal Singh (35) son of Ranjeet Singh of Gunda Khawas area of Rajouri and Sarvan Singh (45) son of Ram Singh of Uttar Pradesh. (KNT)

Body of a 17-year-old was handed over by Pakistan army to their India counterparts at Chakan-Da-Bagh Crossing Point along the Line of Control in Poonch district on Saturday. The teenager, Zaffer Ahmed son of Mushtaq Ahmed of Kali in Poonch district had drowned and his body washed away in Kalai river on July 31. Official sources told GNS that the gate opened at Chakan-Da-Bagh Crossing Point at 1354 hours, and Pakistani army officials handed over the body for the last rites by his family. Family sources told The Kashmiriyat that Dr. Mir Mohammed Ishaq passed away at his residence in Monghall area of Anantnag on Tuesday evening.
