Civilian, army trooper injured during ongoing encounter in Anantnag

SOUTH KASHMIR
An Army soldier and a civilian has been injured in an ongoing gunfight at Rishipora area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday. A top police officer told GNS that during initial exchange if firing one army personnel and a civilian received bullet wounds. Both the injured have been shifted to nearby hospital for treatment, the officer said. Meanwhile exchange firing was going on when this report was being filed.(GNS)

A man was shot at by suspected militants in the Keegam area of south Kashmir's Shopian district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that one civilian identified as Farooq Ahmed Sheikh was shot at in his leg by suspected militants in Shopian's Keegam area, leaving him injured. Farooq Ahmed was shifted to the hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable. Meanwhile, the Jammu Kashmir Police tweeted, "Terrorist fired upon one #civilian Farooq Ahmad Sheikh in Keegam area of #Shopian. He got injury in leg & has been shifted to hospital. His condition is stated to be stable."

The administration in Anantnag said that it retrieved 13 Kanals of land worth 25 crores in the south Kashmir district. In a press release, the district admin said, In compliance to the directions issued by High Court of UT of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, a team comprising of ACR Anantnag and Tehsildar Anantnag on Wednesday held an anti-encroachment drive in Qasba Bagahat Bangidar near Wazir Bagh Anantnag. Two local JeM militants were killed in a gunfight that broke out between militants and government forces at Gundipora village of Pingelan area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday. A “faith healer” has been arrested along with two other persons by police in Shopian following the death of a woman allegedly after she was beaten up last night in the south Kashmir district, officials said on Wednesday.
