As per a report by Hindustan Times, apart from China and Turkey who are likely to not attend G20 meeting, several G20 member states will only participate in the summit at a low level.

Pertinently, the meeting is scheduled to take place in Srinagar next week.

China skipped the G20 summit in Arunachal Pradesh in March, while Turkey won’t be present in Srinagar, the report said. China’s choice appears to be related to Pakistan’s objections, while Turkey has questioned India’s handling of the Kashmir crisis in the past.

The sources, as per the newspaper, said that several additional nations, both G20 member states and guest countries invited by India to participate in the G20 process, are expected to participate at a low level at the meeting in Srinagar.

Instead of officials from their own capitals, these countries are likely to be represented by diplomats from their embassies in New Delhi. These countries most likely include Saudi Arabia and Mexico.

The third G20 working group meeting on tourism will be held in the region from May 22 to 24 – the first global event there since August 5, 2019 when BJP led government of India scrapped the semi-autonomy of Jammu and Kashmir, the country’s only Muslim-majority region.
