Chinese Soldier Captured by Indian Army in Ladakh

The Indian Army on Friday (8 January) morning apprehended a Chinese People Liberation Army’s (PLA) soldier near Gurung hill in the Chushul sector of eastern Ladakh, India Today reported.

The PLA troop had transgressed across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and was taken into custody by the Indian troops deployed in the area, the Indian Army said in a statement.

“Troops from either side are deployed along the LAC since friction erupted last year due to unprecedented mobilization and forward concentration by Chinese troops,” the Indian Army said.

The Army further said that the Chinese troop is “being dealt with as per laid down procedures”. It added that the circumstances under which the Chinese soldier had crossed the LAC are being investigated.

Earlier on 20 October last year, the Indian Army had apprehended a PLA soldier near the Demchok area of Ladakh. He was provided medical assistance by the Army and was handed back to China on 21 October.
