Clashes Erupt in Beirut, Lebanon as Anger Swells Over Port Blast

In central Beirut protests erupted in the premises of foreign ministry, people demanding justice over the recent explosions that killed nearly 158 people leaving 6000 injured.

The protests turned violent when police fired tear gas shells on people who were trying to break through the barrier to the parliament building.

One policeman got killed in the clashes and dozens of protesters got injured. The authorities nearly took 19 people into custody for further investigation.

“We are staying here. We call on Lebanese people to occupy all the ministers”, said a protester over a megaphone.

Portraits of President Michel Aoun were burnt. Slogans were chanted against the government and political establishments.

US President Donald Trump said he will join a conference meet to discuss aid to Lebanon.
