The Jammu Kashmir government has announced the restoration of the November-December academic session for classes 1 to 9 starting from the 2024-25 academic year.
For classes 10 to 12, the academic session will be shifted to February-March beginning in 2025.
In an official order issued on Wednesday, Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, Suresh Kumar Gupta, instructed the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) to conduct the exams for classes 10th to 12th starting in February 2025 and complete them by the end of March 2025.
Gupta confirmed the decision in a statement, saying, “Pursuant to the Council of Ministers’ decision, sanction is accorded to the restoration of the previous academic calendar (November-December session) for the Kashmir region and the winter zone of Jammu.”
He further elaborated, “For the academic session 2024-25, the November-December schedule will apply to classes 1st to 9th, with their examinations scheduled for November-December 2024.”
However, for senior secondary students, Gupta clarified that the shift to the November-December academic session will be implemented starting in the 2025-26 academic year.
“For the current academic session, the JKBOSE shall aim to begin the examinations for classes 10th to 12th from February 15, 2025, and complete them by the end of March 2025,” he added.
Additionally, Gupta announced that from the 2024-25 academic session onwards, the annual examinations (summative assessments) for class 8 will be conducted by the respective schools.
This move aims to streamline the academic calendar and bring it in line with the region’s traditional schedule, which had been disrupted in recent years.
