Cook-cum-helpers working in various government schools in Kulgam staged a peaceful protest today inside the premises of the Mini Secretariat Kulgam, demanding an increase in their monthly honorarium.

Raising slogans, the workers expressed their frustration over low wages. “We are being paid only ₹900 per month, which is not enough to sustain our families. Despite working tirelessly in schools, we are struggling to make ends meet,” said one of the protesting workers.

The demonstrators emphasized that their honorarium has remained stagnant for years, even as inflation continues to rise, making it difficult to afford basic necessities. They urged the government to recognize their contribution to the education system and ensure a fair wage for their services.

The protesters also appealed to Cabinet Minister Sakina Masood and Deputy Commissioner Kulgam to intervene and address their grievances, hoping for a favorable decision that would provide them with financial relief.

The protest remained peaceful, with the workers awaiting a response from the administration.
