Umar Khalid’s bail plea has been deferred by the court on Wednesday in a case related to February 2020 sectarian riots in northeast Delhi.
The bail plea of Umar Khalid, a former student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), named as the mastermind behind the riots was earlier heard on Monday and was then set for March 23 at 4 p.m.
On March 3, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) of Karkar Duma Court Amitabh Rawat had reserved his judgment in the matter. This is the second time that a decision has not been taken on Omar Khalid’s petition.
Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat was scheduled to deliver the verdict on Monday but adjourned the case to Wednesday and today he deferred his bail saying that the decision is not ready yet.
Violence erupted in northeast Delhi in February 2020 during protests against the CAA and the NRC. The riots killed 53 people and injured more than 700.
