Cyber Police Kashmir Saved Rs 5,45,000 of a Man from Uri

The Cyber wing of Jammu Kashmir Police claimed to have saved 5,45,000 of a man from Uri area of Baramulla district on Monday.

The Cyber wing of the Police detailing the incident said that a man from Uri area of District Baramulla while cancelling an Air ticket lost his entire savings after he dialed an Indigo Airlines Call Centre number that he found while searching on Google and that came out to be fake.

“The man wanted to seek a refund for the cancellation of his Air ticket, while searching for a customer care number, he found a number and dialled it. He immediately received back call and was told that the refund amount could be transferred immediately via Google Pay and for this he would have to download a mobile application called Any Desk on his cell phone,” the Police said.

On following the directions on phone, all the money in his bank account of Rs 5,45,000/ got debited in minutes.

The matter was immediately reported to Cyber Police Station Kashmir Zone Srinagar where the financial team of Cyber Police on the directions of SP Cyber Police Kashmir Tahir Ashraf, acted swiftly on this complaint which was received on phone.

Soon, the cyber police team traced out the UPI transaction details which were made by the fraudsters in 14 different transactions amounting to Rs 5,45,000/- and the fraudsters had transferred the said amount from CC AVENUE, Paytm (PAYMENT GATEWAYS), that was further settled to one US based Company Melot Technologies Pvt. Limited. Matter was taken up with the said merchant about these fraudulent transactions and were successfully made to block the transactions for further use.

Thereby an amount of Rs 5,45,000/  was recovered and refund process initiated to the complainant source account.
