Day 8: Internet shutdown continues in parts of south Kashmir

The snapping down of the internet in several parts of south Kashmir districts has irked the students and business community in the Zainapora and Litter areas of south Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama districts respectively.

The internet shutdown in Shopian’s Zainapora and Pulwama’s Litter have affected business as well as education. The internet is off since last Saturday (09 April).

In Shopian, the internet was snapped in the areas of Zainapora, Babapora, Reshipora, Chitragam, Khajapora, and Reban areas.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat the locals said that aspirants of different competitive examinations who have applied for different government jobs are facing hardships.

Several students preparing for their exams said that because of snapped internet they could not prepare well.

“It has gotten tough for us to prepare for the exams We have to move to the other areas to get internet signal. A queue of students has to move to the nearby areas with their books and mobile phones for being able to connect to the internet,” a student from Litter said.

A senior official of a telecom company operating in Kashmir said that they received the official directions from the Union ministry of Home Affairs to shut the internet in these areas. “We do not exactly know the reason. This happens from Bombay, we just receive an order and we abide by it,” he said.

Meanwhile another official said that the internet has been snapped as a precautionary ‘Law and order measure.’
