Days After ‘Strategic Areas Act’, Jammu Kashmir Admin Starts Identifying Land for Camps

Days after the Government of India passed the Strategic areas act, The revenue officials in Kashmir valley are identifying land for the CRPF as they have asked for land in many districts of Kashmir, including Srinagar, Guardian reported.

“The Revenue officials from Chitterhama and Khimber highlands of Srinagar have identified over 500 kanals of land for CRPF. Guardian quoted unnamed officials of the revenue department saying, “CRPF has sought land in entire Jammu Kashmir for the establishment of permanent camps for their forces as they need to build better infrastructure for their troops,”

The administration in Jammu Kashmir has been asked to identify and transfer land to CRPF as soon as possible for the establishment of Battalion Camping Sites.

Though the Government has maintained silence about the project, a senior official, on the condition of anonymity tol the newspaper that “the CRPF has the proposal to provide family accommodation or holiday homes for their jawans and officers to address the issue of troop morale and separation from their families.”

CRPF has souht to estalish such camps at 20 Locations in Kashmir and nine in the Jammu region.

In Srinagar and Ganderbal districts, reports said that the revenue officials have identified land for CRPF, but there is no confirmation officially from the revenue authorities on this subject.
