Mehbooba Mufti

Mehbooba Mufti speaking a group of media personnel after she came of out the Enforcement Department (ED) on Thursday after nearly five hours of questioning said that Dissent has been criminalized in India.

The former Chief Minister said that she will continue fighting for the restoration of Articles 370 and 35, no matter how much she is harassed.

“One who speaks against the BJP Government is being either booked under seditious charges or being summoned by the investigative agencies,” Mehbooba said.

Mehbooba reached the ED office in Srinagar at around 11:00 AM where she was questioned for nearly five hours and was allowed to go at around 04:35 PM.

Pertinently, ED had issued summon to Mehbooba Mufti on March 5 this year, asking her to appear before the agency for questioning in a money laundering case in New Delhi on March 15.

The Jammu Kashmir Police meanwhile has opposed giving passport to former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti citing “adverse report” against her, officials said on Thursday.

A report has been submitted to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court which is hearing a petition filed by Mehbooba over the delay in clearing her passport application.

Mehbooba had applied for a fresh passport in December last year after the previous one expired on May 31, but the application has not been cleared till date in the absence of a police verification report.
