The steep rise in the number of stray dogs in the Drabgam area of Rajpora, Pulwama has become a cause of grave concern for the people of the area.

The residents of Drabgam told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the “problem” has reached an “alarming point”. They slammed the authorities for “ignoring” the “grave issue”.

Every time, the packs of dogs can be seen on roads, threatening the general public, said a local woman.

She said the increasing number of stray dogs is posing a grave threat to people’s lives, with women, children and the elderly scared to pass through the roads.

“Several people were bitten by stray dogs in the last couple of months, due to which there is a panic among the people,” she said.

The locals alleged that the “mysterious” rise in canine population was due to their transportation from urban areas during night hours. They have appealed to the concerned authorities to tackle the menace at the earliest.

“We have several times brought the issue into the notice of higher-ups but to no avail,” said a local, adding, “We once again request the authorities to address the problem which has made our lives hell.”—(KNO)
