An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Kutpora area of Shopian in South Kashmir early morning on Tuesday.
An official confirming the exchange of gunfire to The Kashmiriyat said that 34 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF jointly laid a siege in Kutpora area of Shopian.
He said that the cordon was laid after the forces had received a tip-off about Militant movements in the area.
As soon as the forces launched the searches, the Militants opened fire on them to which the forces responded.
All the entry and exit points to the area have been sealed, sources said, adding “two to three militants are believed to be holed up at the site of the encounter.” They said that two out of three Militants are newly recruited.
Meanwhile the Jammu Kashmir Police has said that they are trying their best to persuade the hiding militants to surrender.
