Female student falls unconscious; Parents allege assault, School says matter of teacher’s negligence

A female student of government school fainted during class hours due to the alleged negligence of a teacher in the Mirgund area of Pattan Baramulla.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the Principal of the Higher Secondary School, Mirgund said that on Thursday he received a complaint that a female student had fallen unconscious during school hours inside her classroom.

“As I went to the class to look into the matter, I found that the girl was lying unconscious on the floor. We rushed her to the nearby hospital, where she was treated and later discharged,” he said.

Quoting her parents, several news reports said, the teacher mercilessly beat the girl with a stick after she complained of suffocation. “The other students kept pleading for mercy, but the teacher did not show any and kept beating the girl student. He also did not allow anyone of the girls to help her saying ‘let her die there,” the reports quoted her parents as saying.

The girl has sustained injuries on her arm as a result of falling from the bench, the prinicipal said.

Upon investigating the matter, he said, the students revealed that the girl was complaining of health issues and demanded that she be let off from the Physical Education class, however, the teacher did not allow her out.

The principal said, “As she was lying on the floor, the Physical Education teacher said that the girl was faking. She is absolutely fine and does not want to attend the class. We should not pay any heed to her.”

“The Physical Education teacher is very rude to students. We have received complaints about him in the past, too,” he told The Kashmiriyat.
