Five booked in Kashmir for posting ‘inflammatory’ content on social media

Anantnag and Budgam Police have taken stringent actions against individuals engaging in such activities.

Anantnag Police, in a statement said, it initiated legal proceedings against three individuals—Salman Mushtaq Kuttay, Rameez Ashraf Hadi, and Umer Farooq Ganie—for uploading inflammatory and seditious videos on their social media profiles.

“These videos contained content aimed at inciting discord and unrest within the community,” said the Anantnag Police.

The authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any similar instances of hate speech, emphasizing that such actions would be dealt with in accordance with the law, Police said in a social media post.

Simultaneously in Budgam, authorities have taken firm measures against those misusing social media platforms to spread rumors and disrupt peace.

Two individuals have been apprehended and presented before the Magistrate, with ongoing investigations into their activities.

Budgam Police has called upon the community to collaborate with law enforcement, encouraging vigilance and prompt reporting of any disruptive behavior or misuse of social media that could endanger communal harmony, Police said.

Thi action by the police comes in the wake of recent administrative directives across various districts cautioning against the posting of “provocative” content on social media platforms.

Prior warnings from the police to abstain from sharing provocative material on these platforms were also issued, emphasizing the serious repercussions for those disregarding these cautions.
