Former Hurriyat leader joins People’s Democratic Party in Srinagar

Another senior leader of separatist amalgam Hurriyat conference has to join the electoral politics.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that senior Hurriyat leader Syed Salim Gilani from Srinagar joined the People’s Democratic party today.

They said that Syed Salim Gilani has been associated to the separatist movement for decades and was considered an important part of the separatist amalgam led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

The development comes at a time when several separatist organisations and religious clerics are jumping into the electoral fray for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu Kashmir.

Banned Jamaat e Islami has fielded at least six of its candidates in the fray who are set to contest the assembly polls in south Kashmir that start on September 18.

Syed Salim Geelani who was associated with the separatist struggle for several years and was also the chairman of Jammu Kashmir National Peoples Party is likely to contest the forthcoming assembly elections from the Khanyar constituency.
