Pawan Kotwal, Principal Secretary, Revenue Department J-K, said, “So far, over four lakhs domicile certificates have been granted to the applicants. Though a period of fifteen days has been fixed for issuing a certificate to an applicant, yet we have asked all revenue officers, including Tehsildars, to complete the process within two days.”
Pawan Kotwal was talking to the Chandigarh based newspaper, The Tribune.
The region-wise division for the issued domicile certificates was not available.
On talking about the rejection of a huge number of the online applications, he said, “the matter has been taken up with the IT department and they have assured that the system expansion will take place soon.”
Pertinently, after the abrogation of article 370 last year, the new domicile law granted domiciliary rights of buying land and becoming eligible for Government posts among other things, to people who have been working and living there for more than 7 years.
