‘From Mid-Day Meals to Teaching, I Manage Everything’- 1 Teacher for 55 Students in a Government School in Anantnag

Proper and good education is very important for all of us, however, available to less. The government primary school in Khanmohalla Chree village of South Kashmir’s Anantnag is painting a grim picture of the education sector with the institute having only one teacher to teach students up to class 5.

The parents whose wards are enrolled in the school said that the school has a total enrolment of 55 students, but only one teacher has been deputed to teach all the students, while other posts are lying vacant for a long time.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat the locals said that the school also lacks the basic infrastructure and proper accommodation. “Only three rooms are available at the school to accommodate 55 students. Besides, the school also does not have drinking water, playground, boundary Wall, etc” they said. “Our wards enrolled in the school are facing immense hardships,” Bashir Ahmad Khan, one of the parents said while appealing the Director School Education Kashmir, CEO Anantnag Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, and ZEO Vailoo to look into the problems and to get the issue redressed at the earliest.”

A teacher of the school told The Kashmiriyat that they are facing immense hardships due to the non-availability of basic facilities in the school.

“I am the only teacher working here in this institution for many years, I have to manage all the school works like the teaching of students, paperwork of the school, Mid-day meal and other related work of the school, ” Mohammad Ashraf Khan said.

He added that it is not possible for him to cover all the syllabus of all subjects for 5 classes, as he knows it is totally injustice with students of the school. Students of the school while speaking to The KAshmiriyat told that it is very hard for one and single teacher to manage and to teach all the subjects and cover all the syllabus while asking the administration to pay attention to the career of the student and depute more teachers in the school.

Students and Local residents made an appeal to the concerned department to send some more teachers to the school so that the future of the enrolled students may not get destroyed.
