Group of Muslims on way to offer Eid prayers allegedly attacked in Rajouri، Police denies

A group of Muslims was allegedly attacked when they were on the way to offer Eid prayers in the Rajouri districts of Jammu Kashmir.

Former chief minister of Jammu Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti tweeted a video from the incident showing injured members of the Gujjar and Bakerwal community.

In her tweet, she said, “Disturbing to see goons attack a group of men in Rajouri on their way to offer Eid Namaz. It doesn’t matter to these hooligans whether the victims are Gujjar Pahari or Kashmiris.”

She added that all that mattered to the goons was that they are Muslims & can be beaten just for that at any place any time.

“Hooligans & miscreants are emboldened enough to carry out such acts because they know they can get away scot free. Request @JmuKmrPolice to immediately take action and ensure such incidents are not repeated,” she appealed.

Police, however, said denied the allegations claiming that Due to a prevailing dispute / confrontation over a path, some people entered in verbal duel in Galhan area of Teryath tehsil in Rajouri district.

“Verbal duel turned into scuffle between a few people in which a man also received minor injury. Immediately village elders, respectables and police intervened and got the matter pacified,” said Police

The Police also said that the matter is being “inquired” by police and civil administration where people from all walks of life have already attended a meeting after the incident vowing to maintain peace and order.

“Amid all this, a few people have shared social media posts that people on way to offer Eid prayers were stopped and beaten up but this claim is purely devoid of facts and confrontation/scuffle over a path dispute has been diverted towards communal issue,” Police said it’s press release.

Police warned of action against the “spread of such baseless posts” and warned of strict legal action against those who will try to “disrupt peace.”
