Gurez areas reeling under darkness, Appeal for Governor’s intervention

Several remote villages in the Gurez area of Bandipora district in North Kashmir have been reeling under complete darkness.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the locals said that a diesel generator that supplied electricity to five villages was damaged on Sunday night after it caught fire.

They said that areas including Chuntiwari, Jalindooru, Kanzalwan, Nai Basti, Izmarg have been without electricity since the generator was damaged.

“It gets hard to live without electricity. From studies of children to other works, we are dependent on electricity and the power outage has affected our life immensely,” Shabir Ahmed a local said.

According to the locals, the fire was brought under control by the locals with assistance from the Indian Army and Police.

The locals appealed to the Governor led administration to fix the generator as soon as possible.
