House of jailed Kashmiri man accused of supporting militants sealed in Shopian

Authorities Tuesday attached the house of a detenue from South Kashmir for his alleged links with militants, news agency KNT reported.

The detenue identified as Usman Gulzar Wani, a resident of Hushangpora Nagabal village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district is currently lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail Jammu.

Usman as per police was arrested in August last year after an encounter and one SLR, two SLR magazines, and 40 SLR rounds were recovered from his possession.

Notably, on 30 August last year, three local militants Danish Khurshid Bhat, Tanvir Ahmed Wani and Tawseef Ahmed Bhat of Shopian district were killed in Nagabal Shopian encounter. After the encounter, police had detained Usman Gulzar Wani for assisting the ultras.

Police confirmed that the house of Usman has been attached for helping militants in the Shopian district.

The Jammu Kashmir administration has planned to launch a major crackdown on the assets of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), militants and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) by sealing the major properties belonging to them.

As per reports, nearly 250 assets of militants, OGWs and Jamaat e Islami are under the radar and the majority of them have been identified by different investigating agencies with the help of civil administration across Jammu Kashmir. Around 60 properties are in the Jammu division and the rest are in the Kashmir valley.

Properties of proscribed organizations’ cadre in Jammu division are mostly confined in Jammu, Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Rajouri, and Poonch districts, they said. However, in Kashmir, it is spread across all 10 districts.
