On Wednesday, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) headed by incarcerated Mirwaiz Kashmir Umar Farooq expressed serious concern over the media reports regarding the health and safety of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF)’s incarcerated chairman Yasin Malik, whose health deteriorated while being on an indefinite hunger strike in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
The APHC, in a statement, said that the political prisoners of Jammu Kashmir were “being subject to revenge for their political beliefs, and all forms of justice and redressal to them are ignored.”
It added that “the people’s leadership of Jammu and Kashmir is either detained under house arrest or imprisoned in jails, which is not only very unfortunate but also illegal under international law.”
The APHC further said that repression on the basis of political ideologies and claims of establishing peace through detentions, bans, censorship, sanctions and repressive measures can neither change the facts nor sentiments and that ultimately, “dialogue and negotiation between all parties is the only way to resolve the long-standing Kashmir issue on a permanent basis.”
And it is inevitable for the establishment of stability and lasting peace and security in the region, it added.
The APHC also reiterated its call for the release of all political prisoners including its Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who is about to complete three years of house imprisonment and all the youth and activists languishing in jails of J&K and various prisons across India and provide all medical assistance to Yasin Malik and judicial redressal.
