Hurriyat condemns the arrest of mother-daughter duo from Rangreth

All Parties Hurriyat Conference on Thursday condemned the arrest of a woman and her daughter by the authorities for sloganeering near the military operation site in Srinagar.

In a statement, Hurriyat said, “It is very unfortunate that mere raising of slogans is seen as a threat by those in authority.”

“APHC asked the authorities to release Afrooza begum and her daughter Ayesha who have committed no crime except an emotional outburst,” the statement said.

Earlier, a mother and daughter identified as Afrooza wife of Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi. Her daughter Aisha daughter of Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, both residents of Rose enclave Wanbal Rawalpora in Srinagar outskirts were arrested on the charges of allegedly raising ‘anti-India slogans’ in the aftermath of the Rangreth shootout.

They said the duo were arrested by Police Station Saddar and were later shifted to Women’s Police Station Rambagh after completing the legal formalities.
