Implement court directions, return body of Amir Magray to his family for burial: Tarigami

CPI (M) leader and former Kulgam legislator, Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami Friday said that despite the clear directions from High Court to return the mortal remains of Amir Latief Magray, the third civilian killed in controversial Hyderpora encounter last year, to his family, the body of the victim is yet to be exhumed.

It is very unfortunate that the administration has not carried out the exhumation even after a week-long hiatus, Tarigami said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), adding that the right to decent burial is a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution and every dead body deserves a decent burial.

“It is a constitutional infraction to deny the return of mortal remains to one’s legal heirs for performing the last rites. It also sans reason as to how a dead body could pose a security threat,” he said.

The statement said that CPI (M) has always opposed the administrative move of not returning the bodies of slain to their families.

CPI (M) enjoined the administration to exhume the body of Magray without any further delay and return it to his family for re-burial—(KNO)
