In the Kashmir valley, Anantnag and Srinagar have turned into hotbeds of drugs during the year 2020.
According to a report, a total of 1222 cases were registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act across Jammu Kashmir in the year 2020- 573 cases in the Jammu zone and 634 in Kashmir.

56 cases were registered in Awantipora, 44 in Kulgam, 37 each in Pulwama and Shopian.
The Budgam, Ganderbal districts of Central Kashmir reported 52 and 25 cases registered under NDPS. 23 in Bandipora, 44 in Kupwara, In Handwara 35 and 38 in Sopore.
In the Jammu division, the maximum cases were reported in Jammu. The district had 197 were lodged in 2020 followed by 89 cases in Udhampur and 61 each in Kathua and Ramban districts.
Over 26,000 kilograms of drugs were recovered by Jammu Kashmir Police during the year 2020. The seizure includes 633.017 kilograms of charas, 1479.15 kilograms of fukki, 22361.22 kilograms of poppy straw, 30.76 kilograms of brown sugar, 128.57 kilograms of heroin, 1.53 kilograms of opium, 1407.44 kilograms of Bhang, and 21.37 kilograms of Ganja.
The highest 40507 intoxicants were seized in Srinagar followed by 18241 in Budgam and 4809 in Shopian.
4681 intoxicants were seized in Anantnag, 222 in Kulgam, 282 in Pulwama, 471 in Awantipora, 1450 in Ganderbal, 1686 in Baramulla, 55 in Kupwara, 3080 in Sopore and 2896 in Bandipora.
